Book Store/Café![]()
MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR A significant and delightful addition to the Museum lobby is Broward County’s own branch of Miami’s famous Books & Books. I remember listening to an interview with Mitchell Kaplan, the founder of Books & Books, a few years ago on WLRN as he explained that he wanted a presence in Fort Lauderdale but he could never find the right spot. I called him soon after to suggest collaborating on a bookstore at the Museum of Art. We are thrilled that Mitchell agreed to work with us. Coincidentally, in a column in the WALL STREET JOURNAL, James B. Stewart spoke about the importance of small, independent bookstores when he wrote that, “I miss the bookstore I grew up with in the Midwest and the small stores that once dotted my neighborhood. I still yearn for someone intelligent who can recommend a good book. I enjoy the community of other people who love books. I like talking to someone both before buying a book and after reading it.” That’s the feeling we strive to create at our Books & Books, with a full schedule of book signings, author visits, reading recommendations, and special events that this unique relationship makes possible. To add to the pleasure of your visit, we’ve installed a café with a wonderful selection of sandwiches, salads and sweets – along with a fine selection of beers and a fabulous wine list.
