As one of the world's preeminent photographers, Sally Mann creates artwork that challenges viewers' values and moral attitudes. Described by Time magazine as "America's greatest photographer," she first came to international prominence in 1992 with Immediate Family, a series of complex and enigmatic pictures of her three children.
What Remains--Mann's ...recent series on the myriad aspects of death and decay--is the subject of this eponymously titled documentary. Filmed at her Virginia farm, Mann is surrounded by her husband and now-grown children, and her willingness to reveal her artistic process allows the viewer to gain exclusive entrance to her world. Never one to compromise, she reflects on her own personal feelings about mortality as she continues to examine the boundaries of contemporary art. Spanning five years, What Remains contains unbridled access to the many stages of Mann's work, and is a rare glimpse of an eloquent and brilliant artist.
Free with paid museum admission. For more information contact kmedlin@moafl.org or 954-262-0227

Sonia Delaunay was a Jewish-French artist who, with her husband Robert Delaunay and others, cofounded the Orphism art movement. It is noted for its use of strong colors and geometric shapes. Her work extends to painting, textile design and stage set design. Sonia was the first living female artist to have a retrospective exhibition at the Louvre in 1964. By 1975 she was named an officer of the French Legion of Honor. Her work in modern design included the concepts of geometric abstraction, the integration of furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, and clothing.
Professor M. Kathleen Colussy, M.F.A. has traveled to seventy-one countries on five continents where she has researched and photographed numerous cultures. Colussy's gift for fashion, textile print design and photography, helped her create a new fine art series of handmade books. This skill contends with the dueling realities of the slick gloss travel brochures along with the sometimes-gritty reality of the indigenous people living and/or working in a given country.

Portrait of an American innocent. In 1955, Bettie Page (1923-2008 ) waits to testify before a Senate subcommittee investigating the effects of pornographic material on American adolescents and juveniles. In flashbacks, we see her childhood in Tennessee, a brief marriage, a gang rape, and her going to New York City in 1949. There she takes acting lessons, models for photos, and acts in short films for adults, earning the nickname, "The Pin-Up Queen of the Universe." We see her relationship with merchants Irving and Paula Klaw, photographers John Willie and Bunny Yeager, boyfriends, and the public. Through it all, she is wholesome, sporting, and forthright - Eve before the fall.
